HSI Salons and working sessions.
HSI uses salons and smaller working sessions to test research questions with practitioners, scholars, policymakers, and institutional leaders. New York was completed in June 2026; London is scheduled for October 2026; Tokyo remains in development for 2027.
The Salon record
The inaugural HSI Salon convened on June 9, 2026 at the House of the Redeemer, bringing together fourteen senior participants from finance, healthcare, law, government, the United Nations system, and academia for a dinner and moderated discussion built around Horizon Scan 001. New York anchors the Institute's standing presence: a private convening of practitioners, scholars, policymakers, and institutional leaders across the four research programs, held during the late-spring window when senior figures from finance, policy, and academia are most consistently in the city.
Programming is structured for candor over performance. The Salon opens with a brief institutional framing from the Executive Director, followed by structured small-group dialogue on questions drawn from the Institute's active research agenda, and closes with a reception over dinner. Selected salons feature a leading outside scholar or practitioner to open the central question, by invitation of the Institute.
The London Salon convenes roughly 20 to 30 senior governance practitioners, regulators, scholars, and HSI patrons in the closing week of London's autumn AI policy calendar. The format follows the New York model: small-group dialogue, behind closed doors, structured around Horizon Scan 002, the Institute's study of where AI governance language acquires enforceable cost and which institutions are doing the converting.
Programming is being developed with the Institute's Strategic Council and London-based academic partners through Q3 2026.
The Tokyo Salon establishes HSI's Asia anchor convening, hosted in February when senior decision-makers schedule cross-Pacific engagement following Davos. It is built around Horizon Scan 003, which turns from legal instruments to industrial ones: compute allocation, energy and grid constraint, export controls, and standards-setting, and the question of what governance means when the binding constraints are physical. Programming will be developed with Japanese policy and academic institutions through 2026.
It serves a particular function in the convening architecture: the anchor for cross-Pacific dialogue on AI governance, planetary futures, and the multilateral order, where U.S. and European perspectives meet Asian regulatory and industrial ones in candid format.
Convening formats and their status
HSI distinguishes completed convenings from scheduled events and plans still in development. Salons are the current public format. Smaller working sessions may be convened when a defined research question warrants them. The HSI Annual Summit is a planned part of the Institute’s convening program, with the inaugural edition targeted for April 2027.

Topic-anchored, by invitation
Smaller convenings of two kinds. Working Sessions are research-occasioned, tied to specific publications. Field Sessions are convened around external windows where senior decision-makers already gather. Both are sited where a city contributes something specific the research needs, whether regulatory proximity, industrial depth, or field evidence from outside the usual capitals. Roughly 8 to 15 attendees. Not publicly listed.

HSI Salons are closed-door and by invitation only. Prepared remarks are on the record; the discussion that follows is held under the Chatham House Rule, so what is said in it is not attributed to the person who said it. Who was present is a matter of record, published with participants' agreement. The format is built to support honest dialogue among practitioners, scholars, policymakers, and institutional leaders who otherwise rarely share a room outside formal institutional settings.
The Institute does not publish video, transcripts, or named attribution from Salons. Insights surface through subsequent published research, with sourcing handled in accordance with the rules of the convening.
New York is completed, London is scheduled, and Tokyo is in development. Any recurring series or additional working session will be described when its program and status are confirmed.
